Hiroaki Yazawa Urushi Lacquerware Exhibition

Born and raised in Kamakura, Hiroaki Yazawa has been surrounded by the art of lacquerware since childhood. Guided by the philosophy that lacquerware is a "tool for use," he meticulously applies lacquer while drawing out the unique characteristics of each piece of wood.

His works are shaped by gouging out wood, and are characterized by a finish that retains traces of the handcrafted process.

Furthermore, while incorporating decorative elements such as silver and tin leaf, he pursues the creation of lacquerware that allows the warmth and texture of the wood to be felt.

In this exhibition, we will showcase pieces that accompany daily life, including bowls, plates, and sake cups, as well as trays and bento boxes.
