Aki Takemoto Exhibition: "Tsuzureori"
This is an exhibition by glass artist Aki Takemoto.
"Tsuzureori" (tapestry weave) is a term used to describe Takemoto's work, in which different colors and expressions overlap just as warp and weft threads intertwine to form a single piece of fabric.
She layers glass sheets painted with enamel, fires them in a kiln, and then cuts and polishes them.
As colors and lines overlap within the glass and light shines through, the uniquely deep, dimensional expression that is characteristic of Takemoto’s work emerges.
In this exhibition, you will also see pieces created by revisiting glass materials and enamels she had used in the past, re-engaging with them through her current sensibilities.
Rather than blowing glass, Takemoto forms her work in a kiln, followed by repeated polishing.
Through a multi-step process, she slowly and deliberately builds up layers of color to create her forms.
