Yuki Nishiyama Exhibition: 2026.10.10 (Sat) - 10.18 (Sun)
Yuki Nishiyama Exhibition “Awai, Meguru”
The seasons turn, the light turns, life turns.
I find beauty in the various gradations within that turning.
Traveling on my own two feet, I encountered plants and landscapes in those lands,
and depicted the life that takes root there, as well as what is born between nature and myself.
Yuki Nishiyama
Yuki Nishiyama blows her own glass bases and depicts flowers, plants, and living creatures using sandblasting and enamel paint.
From the plants and landscapes that change with the seasons to the light, the air, and even the tiny lives that take root within them, she observes the nature she encounters in her daily life and reflects it in her work.
Born and raised in Hokkaido, Nishiyama entered a snow-covered mountain several years ago for a particular reason.
The snowfields, the trees, the presence of animals.
Listening to the sound of the wind in the quiet mountains and bathed in the sunlight, she realized she was in a sacred place and says her heart trembled.
Gratitude and awe toward nature
In the transparency of the glass Nishiyama creates and the richly layered colors, there seem to be depicted not only flowers, plants, and living creatures, but also the passage of time as light shifts, seasons turn, and life continues.
To walk, to observe, to feel, and to depict what she experiences just as it is.
Even her at times astonishingly realistic depictions are, for Nishiyama, a natural and honest way of facing the life before her.
The works in this exhibition depict not only the nature of Hokkaido, but also the plants Nishiyama encountered on the Kumano Kodo and the plants she saw for the first time in Yunnan, China.
Please enjoy this world full of life, reflected through the eyes of Yuki Nishiyama.
