Ikuko Ogawa Kiriko Exhibition 2025.4.5 (Sat) - 4.13 (Sun)
The Kiriko pieces are a perfect balance of dynamic, bold cuts and intricate traditional patterns.
I feel a sense of newness, but at the same time, I sense a desire to carry on the traditions that have been passed down.
Mr. Ogawa grew up in Koto Ward, where Edo Kiriko is popular, and joined an Edo Kiriko class during his university days.
After graduating, he became an apprentice to a traditional craftsman.
For nine years, he learned and inherited the excellent techniques of traditional crafts and the aesthetics of workmanship.
Although he has won many awards at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition,
One of Ogawa's charms is his relaxed and life-sized approach to production.
Last year, Ogawa-san moved from Tokyo to Morioka, and his environment changed dramatically.
I'm also looking forward to seeing works created in new locations.
This exhibition will feature new colors of the popular sake cups.
