Shunzo Masaki
Shunzo Masaki
Born in Ishikawa Prefecture. He began studying under Seika Suda in 1970 and established the Yamashiro Pottery Studio in 1976. Masaki-san has dedicated himself wholeheartedly to crafting ceramics he believes in.
Built upon a foundation of solid technique and a deep understanding of the classics, his work possesses a strength that remains unshaken even after many years. Furthermore, the free and expressive brushwork found within that skilled craftsmanship is a major appeal of Masaki-san’s pieces.
In addition to classic blue-and-white and colored underglaze, he brings flowers, birds, and various living creatures from the natural world to life in his designs. His hand-painted vessels are a joy to hold and admire, enriching the heart and adding a subtle touch of splendor to everything from special-occasion dinner tables to everyday meals eaten alone.
